Bhopal is a city in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It's one of India’s greenest cities. There are two main lakes, the Upper Lake and the Lower Lake. On the banks of the Upper Lake is Van Vihar National Park, home to tigers, lions and leopards. The State Museum has fossils, paintings and rare Jain sculptures. Taj-ul- Masjid is one of Asia’s largest mosques, with white domes, minarets and a huge courtyard and the statue of Raja Bhoj is installed in the middle of the pond, which increases the beauty of the pond further.

राजा भोज परमार वंश के नवें राजा थे। परमार वंशीय राजाओं ने मालवा की राजधानी धारानगरी (धार) से आठवीं शताब्दी से लेकर चौदहवीं शताब्दी के पूर्वार्ध तक राज्य किया था। राजा भोज ने भोजपाल नगर के पास ही एक समुद्र के समान विशाल तालाब का निर्माण कराया था, जो पूर्व और दक्षिण में भोजपुर के विशाल शिव मंदिर तक जाता था।जो की आज बड़े तालाब के नाम से जाना जाता है

ऐसा समझा जाता है कि भोपाल की स्थापना परमार राजा भोज ने १०००-१०५५ ईस्वी में की थी। उनके राज्य की राजधानी धार थी, जो अब मध्य प्रदेश का एक जिला है। शहर का पूर्व नाम 'भोजपाल' था जो भोज और पाल के संधि से बना था।जिसे आज हम भोपाल के नाम से जानते है

जिस समय राजा भोज अपने साम्राज्य का विस्तार कर रहे थे उस समय कलचुरी के राजा गंगाये और चालुक्य साम्राज्य के राजा तेलंग ने मिलकर प्रतापी राजा भोज के विरुद्ध आक्रमण कर दिया लेकिन राजा भोज एक शक्तिशाली राजा होने के साथ बहुत बुदिमान थे और दोनों दुश्मन राजाओं को युद्ध में हरा दिया जिसके बाद से धार नगरी के लोग मजाक बनाते हुए कहने लगे कहा राजा भोज और कहा गंगये तेलंग! जो समय के साथ बदलते बदलते गंगये से गंगू और तेलंग से तेली हो गई और लोगो में कहाबत प्रचलित हुई

Raja Bhoj had built a sea-like pond near Bhojpal Nagar, which led to the huge Shiva temple of Bhojpur in the east and south Which today is known as Upper pond

It is believed that Bhopal was founded by Parmar Raja Bhoj in 1000–1055 AD. His state capital was Dhar, now a district of Madhya Pradesh. The former name of the city was 'Bhojpal' which was formed from the treaty of Bhoj and Pal What we know today as Bhopal
